Getting started

Ed on the Web uses Flash movies to present interactive content. If you haven't got Flash on your computer, you can install it from the Home Page by clicking on the Macromedia Flash Player - this is free and takes a matter of seconds to install.

Free stuff

Free Stuff contains free interactive activities - Ed’s Poetry Zone and Ed’s Spelling Corner for 5 to 7 year olds (Key Stage 1) and Ed’s Poetry Workshop and Ed’s Spelling Corner for 7 to 11 year olds (Key Stage 2). Ed’s Poetry Zone and Workshop stimulate children’s imagination with poetry writing activities. Ed’s Spelling Corner offers fun activities to help improve children’s spelling.

To get maximum benefits from Ed’s Masterclasses in Club Ed (3-7) and The Ed Files (7-11), you need to Join Ed. Using the free trial in the centre of the Home Page, parents and teachers can view the interactive educational content in Ed’s Masterclasses before signing up at either Join Ed or Ed @ Home, for parents, or Ed @ School, for teachers. There is a form to create a user name and password with directions for becoming a member of the Ed on the Web website with payment by cheque or credit card using the Barclays ePDQ secure server. For further details about Ed’s Masterclasses see Club Ed and The Ed Files below.

Club Ed

Club Ed is for 3-7 year olds. Ed's Fun with Words and Ed's Fun with Numbers support the Literacy and Numeracy curriculum. Ed's Fun with Words contains Ed’s Word Quizzes which are interactive literacy quizzes and also drag and drop word activities in Ed's Fun with Words. Ed's Fun with Numbers contains Ed’s Number Quizzes which are interactive numeracy quizzes and also drag and drop addition and subtraction activities in Ed's Fun with Numbers. Club Ed also contains Ed Time Stories which are short stories for children to enjoy reading on their own or with an adult. Ed's Art Room and Ed's Dressing Room are computer-skills activities without use of words or numbers.

The Ed Files

The Ed Files, for 7-11 year olds, is the main curriculum area in English, Maths and Science. Each file has teaching points and examples, then interactive questions and answers followed by Ed's Top Tips. Most of the files present questions at random so different questions may appear each time the content is accessed.

Ed's Revisions contain interactive questions and answers in English, Maths and Science which complement and support the work in The Ed Files.

Children can track their progress in the The Ed Files and Ed's Revisions by clicking on
my Ed Record on the left navigation bar on the Home Page. This scores their progress through the current session of study.

Ed’s Buzz Words present vocabulary on various topics, each group of words followed by interactive questions and answers to stretch children’s vocabulary and reinforce spelling. Ed’s Imaginarium offers interactive teaching and learning in Creative Writing. Ed’s Quizzes are on a wide range of subjects including the Environment, History and Sport. The topics in Ed’s Word Searches include Endangered animals, Magnetism and the Theatre.
